Where it's on today

Every one of our 16 benchmark New Zealand waters has a live read this morning. They are all sitting in the middle of the scale today. Water runs 15 °C to 16 °C. Pressure is holding steady on most of them, so the day comes down to water temperature and wind.

Open right now

Seasons that are open today, worked out from the rule each agency publishes and checked against two years it published. Not a list someone typed in last spring. A species with no published closure is not listed, which is not the same as open.

How it works

Official tide predictions

Tide times come from Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ), the agency that predicts New Zealand’s tides. Where LINZ only publishes differences for a place, we apply them with LINZ’s own method and say so.

Bite times for each place

Sunrise, sunset and the moon’s transits are calculated for each place’s coordinates, and the daily outlook is generated from an open weather model. A model is called a model.
