Gerringong and Werri
Gerringong is the town on the hills above the sea south of Kiama on the Illawarra coast, with Werri Beach and its lagoon below the town, the rock platforms and the boat harbour at the southern headland, Seven Mile Beach running south to Shoalhaven Heads and the Crooked River mouth at Gerroa. Tailor and salmon run Werri and Seven Mile beaches and the harbour rocks in the cooler months at dawn and dusk; bream fish the rocks, the lagoon when it is open and the Crooked River all year; drummer and luderick hold on the harbour platforms in winter; whiting fish Seven Mile Beach in summer; mulloway are the night fish of the Seven Mile gutters; kingfish come to the headland in summer; and the reef off the harbour gives snapper for the boats launched there.
