Ulladulla and its harbour
Ulladulla is a fishing port on the New South Wales south coast, three hours from Sydney, with a harbour enclosed by two breakwaters, the lighthouse and the rock platforms at Warden Head, Mollymook Beach to the north and the lakes of the district around it: Burrill Lake to the south, Lake Conjola further on, and the Milton and Narrawallee estuaries to the north. It fishes from the breakwaters and the harbour, the rocks and the beaches, and from the trawler-lined harbour by boat over the reefs and the shelf. The report on this page is scored for the town’s coordinates.
Species and seasons
Bream and luderick fish the breakwaters and the harbour walls, luderick in winter; tailor and salmon run the beaches and the rocks in the cooler months; kingfish hold at Warden Head and the reefs in summer; and squid work the harbour weed and the lights. Flathead lie on the sand of Mollymook and the lakes in the warmer months, mulloway are the night fish of the harbour and the beaches, drummer hold in the washes of the rocks, and the reefs outside give snapper in winter and the pelagics in summer for the boats.
