The reach
The Tully at Euramo is the river of the wettest town in Australia as it leaves the rafting gorge under the range and runs through the cane and banana flats toward the sea at Tully Heads, wide and fast between river gums with the Euramo bridge on the Bruce Highway, the reserves and the tidal reaches below. It is barramundi and grunter water on the edge of the tide, and the Bureau of Meteorology’s gauge at Euramo supplies the river level and the 30-day chart on this page.
Species and seasons
Barramundi fish the snags and the deep bends in the warm months, with the Queensland east coast closure from 1 November to 31 January computed on the species card; sooty grunter are on the rock upstream toward the gorge; jungle perch are in the clear creeks under their rules; mangrove jack and the estuary fish are in the tidal reaches; and the Tully floods more than any river in the country. Crocodiles are in the river.
Where to fish it
The Euramo bridge and the reserves give bank access, the crossings upstream toward the gorge give the rock reaches, and a boat launched at the town or at Tully Heads covers the river down to the sea; the snags and the deep bends are the barramundi water. The gorge above is rafting water, not fishing water.
