The chain system

The Fox Chain links 15 glacial lakes (7,100 acres) between the Fox River's channels: Pistakee, Fox, Nippersink, Channel, Petite and their siblings: each with its own character, all connected for boats. Summer weekends run carnival-loud; the fishing happens at the edges: dawn, weekdays, and the cold months when the chain returns to the anglers.

Muskie in the traffic

The chain holds one of Illinois' best muskie programs: weedline trollers and casters work Pistakee's and Channel Lake's cabbage for fish past 45 inches. The trick is timing around traffic: May-June before the armada, October when it is gone. Bucktails on the edges, figure-eights always: urban-adjacent muskie hunting that actually produces.

Walleye and the white bass carousel

Walleye hold the deeper holes (Channel and Catherine's 30-ft basins) and the river-mouth currents: jigs in spring, leadcore trolling the thermocline edges in summer.
