Glendo Dam was built by the Bureau of Reclamation between 1954 and 1958, mainly to store irrigation water and help control floods. Wyoming State Parks gives the reservoir approximately 12,000 surface acres inside a 22,000-acre park with six boat ramps and more than 500 campsites, and calls it one of the state's top walleye fisheries.

The park says the water level swings on average about 55 feet a year. Full pool is elevation 4,635, the conservation pool bottoms out at 4,570, and the lake usually peaks in June after winter storage and spring runoff.
