The lake
Lake Lenthall is the Lenthalls Dam on the Burrum River north-west of Hervey Bay and Maryborough, a timbered impoundment in the Wongi forest that supplies Hervey Bay, with a picnic area, a ramp and a shore of drowned trees across most of the lake. It is a barramundi and Australian bass water stocked by the local group, and the Bureau of Meteorology’s gauge at the dam headwater supplies the level on this page as a watercourse level, with the storage volume alongside, because no storage level series is published for the dam.
Species and seasons
Barramundi are stocked and fish the timber and the points in the warm months at dawn, dusk and at night, and Lenthalls is on the Queensland Government’s exempt list, so the closure does not apply and the species card shows open all year with the rule linked; Australian bass are stocked and school in the deep water in winter and spread along the edges in summer; golden perch and Mary River cod are stocked, the cod protected and returned; and red claw are a pot fishery.
Where to fish it
The ramp and the picnic area at the dam are the access, and the lake is a boat and kayak fishery of casting to timber: the standing forest across the middle, the points near the wall and the creek mouths in the arms. Electric motors and small craft suit the timber, and the bass schools of winter are found off the points with a sounder.
