Yellowfin bream on the east coast, black bream in the southern estuaries. Structure fish: rock walls, jetty piles, oyster racks, snags and pontoons. Redcliffe and the bay
Redcliffe is the peninsula at the northern end of Moreton Bay, a suburb of the city with the bay on three sides, and its fishing is the jetties and the foreshore: Redcliffe Jetty, Woody Point Jetty, the old Hornibrook bridge structures at Clontarf and the rock walls and beaches between them, with the Pine River and Hays Inlet on the landward side and the northern bay flats and the shipping channel in front. It is one of the most fished shorelines in south-east Queensland because it is close, public and lit. Species by season
Bream are the jetty and wall fish all year, with a winter run into the Pine River; flathead lie on the sand off the beaches and the river mouths in the warmer months; whiting fish the flats in summer; and squid work the jetty lights and the weed in the cooler months. Tailor and school mackerel come through the northern bay in their seasons, snapper are taken off the jetties and the channel in winter, mud crabs and sand crabs are a pot fishery in the river and the inlet, and the channel markers offshore give snapper and mackerel to the boats.
