What the trophy counts mean

Texas tracks big bass through the Toyota ShareLunker program, where the Legacy Class means 13 pounds or more. Florida uses TrophyCatch, with a Lunker Club for 8 to 9.9 pounds and a Trophy Club for 10 to 12.9 pounds. Both rely on catches that anglers submit and the agencies approve, so the counts show where big fish are reported, not every fish in a lake.

When the big fish show

The agencies point to late winter and spring. TPWD says Lake Fork bass are concentrated along the shoreline to spawn from mid-February to April, and ShareLunker accepts Legacy entries from January 1 through March 31. TWRA says Chickamauga largemouth spawn over several weeks from March to May.
