Rhode Island writes its trout opener into the rule as a weekday and a time of day: six in the morning on the second Saturday of April, and the whole state turns up.
Every season we have verified in Rhode Island
One block per rule, because a single species can be on two calendars in the same state depending on the water. The band under each heading is the legal season; the row under it is what our own data says the fish are doing.
Trout — Statewide
The regulation says the season "shall commence at 6:00 AM on the second Saturday of April, annually" and "close annually on the last day of February at midnight". So the trout season covers about ten and a half months and the gap is March, when the stocking trucks are working. From December 1 the daily limit drops from five to two.

Bass — Statewide
Largemouth and smallmouth carry no closed season at all, which makes them the species to fish in March when the trout season is shut. Felt-soled waders and any footwear with porous soles are banned in every freshwater in the state, which is a rule people arrive not knowing.

Northern pike — Statewide
No closed season on either. A twenty-four inch minimum on pike in a state this small is a serious restriction and reflects how few waters hold them.

What the water is doing while the season is open
This is the part an agency page will not tell you. The temperature row above is the seasonal curve we use for the 7 of 14 Rhode Island waters we track on a northeast surf profile, and it is why an opening date and a fishable date are not the same thing. A season that opens while the water is still in the forties is a legal invitation, not a biological one: the fish are there, they are just not eating on your schedule yet. Cross the legal band against the activity row before you book the day off.
