The rocky kingdom

Narragansett's coast is New England surf-casting distilled: Point Judith's lighthouse rips, the Narrow River mouth, and rock gardens (Monahan's, Hazard's, Black Point) where wetsuited casters work boulder fields for stripers from May to November. The structure never moves; the bait parades past it: learn ten rocks and you own a season.

September's albie fever

When false albacore arrive (late August-October), Narragansett becomes the Northeast's albie capital: schools rocketing through Point Judith's rips and along the beaches, metal and epoxy jigs thrown at 30-mph feeds. The harbor of refuge walls give shore casters legitimate shots: parking fills before dawn on the good weeks.

The bay and the salt ponds

Narragansett Bay behind the point runs its own program: school stripers all season in the coves, tautog on every rockpile (the state's beloved fishery: RI manages tog like treasure), scup for the family rods, and squid runs each May that light the docks at night. The salt ponds (Point Judith, Potter) add winter holdover bass and quiet kayak water.
