A working point

Point Judith juts into Block Island Sound at the mouth of Narragansett Bay, home to Rhode Island’s largest commercial fishing fleet and to some of the state’s best shore fishing. The lighthouse, the harbor of refuge walls, the Point Judith Pond breachway and the surrounding beaches all hold fish, and the current running past the point concentrates bait through the season.

Stripers and blues

Striped bass work the rocks around the point and the breachway current, best at night and around tide changes: eels, plugs and soft plastics. Bluefish blitz through in summer and fall, chasing bait along the beaches and into the pond.
