Wisconsin has a single general inland opener that most of the state runs on, and then a set of exceptions that matter more than the rule: smallmouth in the northern zone waits another seven weeks, and trout streams open a month early.

Walleye — General inland waters
The general inland season — walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass and most else — opens the first Saturday in May and closes the first Sunday in March. That gave May 3, 2025 to March 1, 2026, and May 2, 2026 to March 7, 2027.

Bass — Smallmouth, northern zone
Harvest of northern-zone smallmouth does not open until the third Saturday in June: catch-and-release only for the seven weeks the rest of the state is keeping fish. Southern-zone smallmouth and largemouth statewide follow the general opener.
Trout — Inland trout streams
Streams open at 5 a.m. on the first Saturday in April and run to October 15, a month ahead of the general season. Trout lakes and ponds wait for the general opener instead, so the same species is on two calendars depending on whether the water moves.
Northern pike — General inland waters
Same dates statewide, but the daily limit more than halves when you cross Highway 10 heading south. That line does more work in Wisconsin regulations than most anglers realise.

What the water is doing while the season is open
This is the part an agency page will not tell you. A season that opens while the water is still in the forties is a legal invitation, not a biological one: the fish are there, they are just not eating on your schedule yet.
