Big fish, short drive

Pewaukee delivers what shouldn't coexist: legitimate 50-inch muskies and a metro address. Decades of stocking built a dense, well-fed population (suckers matched to the lake's panfish soup), and the lake's fame feeds itself: more targeted muskie hours per acre than anywhere in the state, and still the fish keep coming.

Working the flats

The lake splits at the narrows: the deep west end (40-plus feet: summer trolling water) and the weedy east bowl (the casting flats).
