Shield water at scale

Rainy spreads a quarter-million acres of granite islands and cold clear water across the U.S.-Canada line: Voyageurs National Park wraps the American arm in roadless shoreline. The fishery is classic shield: walleye on the reefs, smallmouth on every rock, pike in the bays, crappie in the timbered pockets: wilderness numbers with houseboat comfort.

Summer walleye ride the reef tops and sand transitions at 12-30 ft: jig-and-leech by day, crankbaits over the bars at dusk. Smallmouth heaven, discreetly

Rainy's smallmouth may outshine the walleye claim: endless rock, low pressure, and 20-inch fish on topwater all summer. June's post-spawn aggression around the islands is as good as bronze fishing gets anywhere: poppers at dawn, tubes after, nobody within a mile.
