Ewen Maddock Dam sits on Addlington Creek beside Landsborough in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, a shallow, weedy lake of lily pads, reed beds and drowned melaleuca below the Glass House country, with a recreation area and walking tracks along its shore. Species and seasons
The Queensland Government lists Australian bass, golden perch, Mary River cod and saratoga as stocked at Ewen Maddock. Bass are the lake’s main fish, taken on surface lures and weedless plastics along the lily edges at first light; saratoga cruise the shallows in summer and take surface flies and lures; golden perch hold deeper; Mary River cod are few. There is no closed season on these fish in the dam, and the species card is scored for bass and golden perch.
Where to fish it
The recreation area and the tracks along the western shore are the bank access at Ewen Maddock, casting to the reed and lily edges, and a kayak launched under the dam’s rules is the way into the shallow bays and the drowned melaleuca where the saratoga and the bass hunt.
