Cluny Lagoon
Cluny Lagoon is the small hydro storage on the Derwent River below Lake Repulse, in the farming and bush country between Ouse and Meadowbank, a river lagoon of willowed and timbered banks that the Derwent passes through on its way to Meadowbank Lake. The Bureau of Meteorology’s gauge at the dam supplies the level and the 30-day chart on this page.
Species and seasons
Cluny Lagoon holds brown trout along its willowed edges and in the current where the Derwent enters, and any method is allowed under the Code’s general lake rules. With no entry of its own in the Inland Fishing Code, Cluny keeps the general lake season, the first Saturday of August to the Sunday nearest 30 April, computed on the species card, with the general lake bag of 12 fish over 300 mm.
Where to fish it
Access to Cluny Lagoon is from the roads near the dam and the hydro access points; the bank fishes where the river current enters and along the willowed edges, and a kayak covers the small lagoon. Meadowbank Lake, open all year, is a few kilometres downstream.

Cluny Lagoon is reached from the Lyell Highway between Hamilton and Ouse; the small towns along the highway have limited supplies, and New Norfolk is the nearest larger town. The lagoon suits a morning on the bank or in a kayak, combined with Meadowbank Lake downstream, which is open all year.
