The Hopkins at Framlingham
Framlingham is the locality on the Hopkins River inland from Warrnambool, where the river runs through a forested valley and farmland toward Allansford and its estuary at Warrnambool. Brown trout, river blackfish and estuary perch are the fish of the Hopkins around Framlingham: trout in the runs in the cooler months, blackfish in the snags at dusk, estuary perch in the deeper pools toward the estuary. Victoria’s river trout closure, the Tuesday after the King’s Birthday weekend to the Friday before the first Saturday in September, applies; the species card computes it.

The river through the year

Estuary perch move up from the estuary into the lower pools in the warm months, and blackfish feed in the snags after dark. After heavy rain the river rises and colours quickly.
