Walleye up, perch down

Michigan DNR's survey summary for 2025 (released March 10, 2026) reported the second-highest experimental gill-net catch rate ever recorded for yearling walleye in Saginaw Bay, with the overall walleye catch rate within the range seen since the population recovered in the late 2000s. Catch rates of adult yellow perch remain low, and DNR manages both species under its Walleye and Yellow Perch Recreational Management Plan for Saginaw Bay. The 2025 survey also caught three juvenile lake sturgeon stocked in the Saginaw River watershed.

Under the 2026 Michigan Fishing Regulations, the Lake Huron waters of management unit MH-4, including Saginaw Bay and the lower Saginaw River up to the West Center Street (Douglas G.
