Sound country

Biloxi fronts the Mississippi Sound: the shallow, fertile lagoon behind the barrier islands where speckled trout, redfish and flounder run the calendar. The town's fleet splits daily: west to the storied Biloxi Marsh (Louisiana water: license accordingly), south to the islands' surf and grass, or simply out front: the Sound's reefs and channels produce within sight of the casinos.

The Sound's rotation

Spring trout stack the oyster reefs and channel edges (popping corks and shrimp: the eternal method), summer moves fish to the islands' surf and the deeper rigs' shade, fall runs the white-shrimp migration: birds working over feeding schools sound-wide: and winter pushes everything into the bayous and channels' warm holes (Big Lake, the Back Bay's deep bends).

Islands and the marsh
