Caesar Creek Lake covers about 2,830 acres on Caesar Creek northeast of Cincinnati, a Corps flood-control reservoir known for two things: clear water by Ohio standards, and the fossils exposed in the spillway, which visitors may collect with a permit. The fishery includes muskellunge, saugeye, largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish.

Muskie and saugeye

Ohio stocks muskellunge and they hold the weed edges, points and timber, taking large baits with fall the best window. Saugeye work the riprap and points, biting through the cold months on jerkbaits and jigs. Both fisheries are supported by state stocking and give the lake more variety than most southwestern Ohio waters.

Bass in clear water

Largemouth relate to the timber and brush while smallmouth work the rockier points and riprap: clear water rewards finesse and low-light periods. Crappie hold the standing timber at 10-20 feet, best in spring and fall. The lake’s clarity also makes it popular with scuba divers, which anglers notice on summer weekends.
