Parks around the lake

Detroit Lake State Recreation Area runs a campground of nearly 300 sites, open year round, with two courtesy boat ramps and a fishing dock; the campground is for campers only. Mongold Day-use Area, 1.5 miles west, has the public launch, parking for 120 vehicles with trailers and a life jacket loaner station, and needs a day-use parking permit. State Parks notes that the area around the park was heavily damaged in the September 2020 Santiam Canyon wildfires and that blue-green algae blooms can occur.
