Bois d'Arc filled in 2021 as Texas' first major new reservoir in 30 years: and TPWD scripted its fishery from the start: Florida-strain bass stocked before full pool, timber left standing across thousands of acres, and habitat structure placed by plan. New lakes boom: flooded nutrients feed explosive growth: and Bois d'Arc is mid-boom now: the ground floor Texas anglers dream about.

Fishing the flood

The standing timber is the lake: flip and pitch the tree lines on the creek channels, swim jigs through the flooded lanes, topwater over the submerged fields at dawn. Fish grow fast and fight dumb-young: 5-lb bass that have never seen a boat: the window before education sets in is exactly now.

Crappie colonized the timber instantly (spring wood-dipping already produces), channel cats boom on the flooded fertility, and sunfish carpet the shallows: the full new-lake surge. Expect year-classes to stack: each season's catch runs noticeably bigger than the last: the boom curve in real time.
