A Corps lake that drains north

TPWD lists Joe Pool at 6,469 acres on Mountain Creek, a Trinity River tributary, in Tarrant, Ellis and Dallas counties four miles south of Grand Prairie, with a maximum depth of 75 feet. The Corps of Engineers says impoundment began in January 1986, that the lake is fed mostly by Mountain and Walnut creeks and drains north, and that it has 64 miles of shoreline at its 522-foot conservation pool; the City of Midlothian takes its public water supply from the lake.

Timber left on purpose

Trees were cleared between 501 and 522 feet in the main body but left in the upper branches for fish habitat, the Corps notes. TPWD adds that the upper third of both arms is timbered, that several large marked brush piles were built in the cleared lower end before filling, and that flooded stock ponds, bridges and roadbeds remain; hydrilla grows throughout, especially near the dam.
