Big water inside the loop

Lewisville is the metroplex's big backyard: hybrid schools roam the main lake all winter, blue cats grow heavy on the shad machine, and the timbered arms (Little Elm, Hickory) fish far better than the party-cove reputation suggests. Summer means dawn or night; the fish never left.

The blue-cat program

Lewisville discreetly grows some of DFW's biggest blue catfish: winter drift fishing over the 20-30 ft flats near the river channel with fresh shad produces 30-50 lb fish for those who bundle up. Juglines work the same flats in Texas tradition: the lake's shad factory feeds everything.

Hybrids, sandies and the tower

The old Lake Dallas tower area, main-lake points and the Highway 380 flats hold the pelagic action: hybrids and white bass schooling at dawn May through September, then regrouping under birds all winter. Slabs and tail-spinners from a drifting boat is the whole technique.

Big-city bags

Lewisville absorbs DFW's heaviest pressure and still coughs up 8-lb bass every spring: the flooded timber of the Little Elm and Hickory Creek arms holds quality that survives the traffic by living deep in the wood. Sand-bass schools on the main-lake humps feed the everyman fleet all summer. Fish weekdays, fish the timber's interior lanes, and the metro lake fishes bigger than its reputation.
