The Macintyre at Yetman
Yetman is the small border village on the Macintyre River north of Inverell, where the bridge crosses into Queensland and the river forms the border on its way to Goondiwindi, winding under river red gums between grazing country. Murray cod and golden perch are the fish of the Macintyre at Yetman, cod in the snags and deep holes, yellowbelly in the warm months. New South Wales closes Murray cod from 1 September to 30 November and Queensland from 1 August to 31 October in its Murray-Darling waters, so the bank you fish from decides which applies; the species card computes the New South Wales rule.

Cod feed through summer and autumn in the snags and deep holes. Golden perch are most active on rising water in the warmest months, and the winters here are cold, with the fishing slow until spring warms the water. The bridge is the obvious access, and the reserves near the village give room to walk the bank.
