The Macintyre at Goondiwindi
Goondiwindi is the border town on the Macintyre River, which divides Queensland from New South Wales here, on the cotton and grain plains of the Border Rivers, with the Paul Hilton Weir holding a pool at the town. Species and seasons
Murray cod and golden perch are the fish of the Macintyre at Goondiwindi, the cod in the snags and deep holes on lures and bait, the yellowbelly on shrimp and worms in the warm months. Queensland closes Murray cod in its Murray-Darling waters from 1 August to 31 October, and New South Wales from 1 September to 30 November; the species card computes the Queensland rule, and the bank you fish from decides which rules apply.
Where to fish it
The riverside parks and reserves at Goondiwindi give bank access to the Macintyre, and the Goondiwindi weir pool is on the Queensland Government’s stocked impoundment list, as the Paul Hilton Weir, so a Stocked Impoundment Permit is needed to fish it from age 18.
