The reach
The Burnett at Mundubbera is the upper river between Wuruma and Cania above and the Gayndah weirs below, running through the North Burnett’s citrus and cattle country past the town’s river parks over sand bars, rock and river gums, with the Jones Weir pool below the town and the Auburn and Boyne junctions above. It is bass and perch water of the upper Burnett, and the Bureau of Meteorology’s gauge at Mundubbera supplies the river level and the 30-day chart on this page.
Species and seasons
Australian bass fish the snags and the deep bends from spring to autumn under the state’s bass rules; golden perch are the everyday fish from spring to autumn; the Queensland lungfish, protected, is common and must go back; saratoga and eel-tailed catfish are present; and barramundi from the weir pools reach the town, inside the Ben Anderson Barrage exemption. The dams upstream, Wuruma and Cania, have their own pages.
Where to fish it
The river parks give bank access at the town, the Jones Weir pool below fishes from a boat, and a kayak covers the reaches upstream toward the junctions; the deep bends and the rock are the bass and perch water. Night fishing along the snags is the summer method.
