The lake
Wuruma Dam holds the Nogo River north-west of Eidsvold in the North Burnett, a quiet impoundment in cattle country with a camping ground, a ramp and long shores of timber and rock, far enough from the coast that it never gets crowded. It is a bass, golden perch and saratoga lake stocked by the local group, and the Bureau of Meteorology’s gauge at the dam supplies the level and the 30-day chart on this page.
Species and seasons
Australian bass are stocked and school in the deep water off the points in winter and spread along the edges and the timber in summer; golden perch are stocked and fish the points from spring to autumn; saratoga are stocked and fish the surface along the timber at dawn; barramundi have been stocked in some years and Wuruma is on the Queensland Government’s exempt list for the closure; and red claw are a pot fishery. The stocking group publishes its releases.
Where to fish it
The camping ground and the ramp at the wall are the access, and the timbered arms upstream and the rocky points along the shores are the water, fished from a boat or a kayak, with the bass schools of winter found off the points with a sounder. Bank fishing from the camp foreshore works at dusk in the warm months.

Wuruma is one of a chain of North Burnett impoundments, with Cania to the north and Boondooma and Bjelke-Petersen to the south, and an angler working the district can fish a different lake each day within an hour or two of Eidsvold; Wuruma is the quietest of them and the one with the most golden perch water along its rocky points.
