The reach
The Condamine at Warwick is the upper Murray-Darling river through the southern Downs town, slow and willow-lined between river gums and black soil with the Warwick weir pool, Queens Park on the bank and the reaches upstream toward Killarney and the range. It is cod and perch water of the Queensland Murray-Darling, and the Bureau of Meteorology’s gauge at Warwick supplies the river level and the 30-day chart on this page.
Species and seasons
Murray cod fish the snags, the weir pool and the deep bends through summer and autumn on lures and bait, with the Queensland Murray-Darling closure from 1 August to 31 October computed on the species card and no exemption for the river; golden perch are the everyday fish from spring to autumn; eel-tailed catfish and spangled perch are present; and carp are numerous. Leslie Dam nearby, exempt from the closure, has its own page.
Where to fish it
Queens Park and the weir give bank access at the town, the water below the weir is the cod hole, and a kayak covers the pool upstream and the river downstream toward Pratten; the deep bends and the snags are the water. Night fishing along the snags is the summer method.
