Best: November to April

The lake
Lake Moogerah holds Reynolds Creek in the Scenic Rim south-west of Brisbane, a lake under the sheer face of Mount Edwards and the Main Range with a caravan park, camping, ramps and a foreshore that draws day trippers as much as anglers. It supplies the Fassifern irrigators and draws down through the dry; the Bureau of Meteorology’s gauge at the dam supplies the level and the 30-day chart on this page.
Species and seasons
Australian bass are stocked and school in the deep water off the points and the wall in winter and spread along the edges and the timber in summer; golden perch are stocked and fish the points from spring to autumn; saratoga fish the surface along the timber at dawn; silver perch, eel-tailed catfish and Mary River cod, the last protected, are present; and red claw are a pot fishery. The stocking group publishes its releases.
Where to fish it
The caravan park and the ramps near the wall are the access, and the deep water off the wall and the points either side hold the winter bass schools, found with a sounder; the timbered arms toward the inflow and the edges under Mount Edwards are the summer water. Bank fishing from the park foreshore works at dusk, and the lake is open enough that a plan for the wind is worth having.
Reading the report
