Blue Ridge big water

Chatuge floods the Hiwassee's headwater valley across the GA-NC line: 7,000 acres of mountain-clear TVA water ringed by Appalachian views. The fishery leans pelagic: hybrids and the blueback-herring economy: with spotted bass on every point, largemouth in the coves, and a smallmouth restoration effort rebuilding the native claim.

Hybrid economy

Georgia's hybrid stocking rides the blueback base: spring topwater flurries on wind-blown points, summer downlines at 25-40 ft over the channel, winter gulls marking bait off the dam. The 5-10-lb class pulls mountain-lake hard: locals troll umbrella rigs between schooling shows.

The bass ladder

Spotted bass (blueback-fattened) dominate the rocky structure: drop shots and damiki rigs on 20-40-ft marks: while largemouth work the few flat pockets. The smallmouth restoration (NC-side stockings) is young but promising: handle any brown fish gently: they are the lake's next chapter.
