A Georgia or an Alabama fishing license is recognized on all waters of Bartlett’s Ferry Reservoir; Alabama refers anglers to Regulation 220-2-.122 for reciprocal waters. Spotted bass have no minimum size (Georgia DNR). Shoal bass are protected from harvest in Alabama.

Georgia side: Idle Hour Park and Blanton Creek Park (Georgia Power; seasonal, with camping). A border reservoir

Georgia DNR describes Bartlett’s Ferry, also called Lake Harding, as a 5,850-acre Georgia Power reservoir on the Chattahoochee River along the Georgia-Alabama line, just above Goat Rock Lake; Alabama’s fisheries office lists it at 5,860 acres. Its many docks and piers concentrate fish.

Black bass

DNR sampling shows an equal chance of catching largemouth and spotted bass. Largemouth mostly run 12 to 15 inches and are more common above Blanton Creek Park; docks, rocky points and humps are the targets, best from early March through May. Spotted bass are non-native, have no minimum size and mostly measure 7 to 12 inches, and DNR encourages anglers to keep their limit; fish the docks down the lake for them.

Hybrids and stripers

DNR stocked hybrid bass for the fourth straight year in 2025, and hybrids should average about 18 inches. In early spring fish below Riverview Dam, the area known as Crow Hop; in summer and winter troll the deeper water near the dam or where Halawakee Creek enters. Most striped bass run about 18 inches, with a few over 20 pounds; numbers fell when hatcheries struggled to produce fingerlings, and stocking resumed in 2024.

Channel catfish are the most abundant catfish, and blues and flatheads over 10 pounds are possible; fishing near the dam during water releases is often good. For crappie, DNR points to the upper lake below Riverview Dam from February through April, then the lower lake near the dam and the mouth of the Halawakee arm.
