Lake Charlevoix stretches seventeen miles through northern Michigan, connected to Lake Michigan through the Pine River channel at Charlevoix. That connection brings Great Lakes species: lake trout, chinook and coho salmon, steelhead and brown trout, alongside a strong resident smallmouth bass population, walleye, northern pike and perch in the bays.

Trout and salmon

Lake trout hold the deep basin and take trolled spoons and jigged tubes, with the main body reaching 120 feet. Salmon move in through the channel seasonally and are trolled in the deeper water. Brown trout and steelhead work the shallower shelves and the channel area, best in spring and fall when water is cool.

Smallmouth on the rock
