A river wearing a lake's name

Taneycomo was a warm-water lake until Table Rock Dam (1958) began releasing 48-degree water into it: now it fishes as America's odddest trout stream: 22 miles of cold tailwater with lakefront addresses. Rainbow stockings by the hundred thousand feed a catch-rate paradise; the brown trout grow to state-record size in the fertile flow.

The trophy area rules

The upper 3 miles (Table Rock Dam to Fall Creek) run special regulations: artificial lures only, slot protections: and hold the density: scuds, sowbugs and midges by the billion.
