USGS has a monitoring site on the creek at Oak Orchard Marine Park, and New York State Parks runs Oak Orchard State Marine Park on NY Route 18 as a boat launch with fishing access and picnic areas, open April through November from dawn to dusk.

Trout and salmon limits

DEC's Lake Ontario tributary rules let anglers keep brown trout, rainbow trout (steelhead), coho and Chinook salmon all year: 3 in combination, at least 15 inches, with no more than 1 rainbow trout or steelhead and 1 brown trout in tributaries, and rainbow trout or steelhead at least 25 inches. Lake trout are open December 1 to September 30, 2 a day, with only one between 25 and 30 inches.

September to March reach rules

From September 1 to March 31, DEC's seasonal regulations cover the creek from the first power lines 1.9 miles upstream of the Route 18 bridge to Waterport Dam. In that reach fishing is prohibited from half an hour after sunset to half an hour before sunrise, lures may carry only one single-point hook (floating lures and flies have their own rules), hook gaps may not exceed 1/2 inch, and any weight must be within four feet of the hook. Snatching and chumming with eggs are prohibited all year, and foul-hooked fish must be released.
