A managed trout lake

ODFW has managed Diamond Lake, near the headwaters of the North Umpqua in eastern Douglas County, since the early 1900s, when it began running a rainbow trout hatchery there. Rotenone treatments in 1954 and 2006 removed tui chub, which were found again in 2015; ODFW has trapped chub and golden shiners every summer since 2016.

The 2025 season in numbers

ODFW stocked 360,225 fingerling rainbows, 20,020 brown trout and 17,926 tiger trout in 2025 and plans similar numbers for 2026. Its creel survey estimated 63,091 rainbows caught and 33,017 kept between ice-off on May 10 and November 30, below the 10-year average. Rainbows kept averaged about 14 inches; the largest measured 21 inches. Anglers also caught and released an estimated 7,893 brown and 2,318 tiger trout.
