The Macintyre at Inverell
Inverell is the New England town on the Macintyre River, where the river runs between granite boulders, river oaks and red gums through the town parks on its way west toward the Border Rivers. Species and seasons
Murray cod are the fish of the Macintyre at Inverell, holding in the deep granite pools and under the timber, taken on lures and bait; golden perch are caught in the warm months; trout cod, a protected species, occur in parts of the Border Rivers and must be released. The New South Wales Murray cod closure, 1 September to 30 November, applies; the species card computes it.
Where to fish it
The town parks along the river in Inverell give easy bank access, and the reaches downstream toward Ashford are reached from the road crossings, with the rocky pools the cod water.

Inverell has tackle, supplies and accommodation, and Copeton Dam, a big cod lake, is a short drive south. Bring cod lures, and a kayak for the pools between the crossings.
