The city's fishing lake

Hefner sits inside OKC's northwest grid: a water-supply bowl ringed by bike path, sailing docks and the lighthouse that became the city's postcard. Under the recreation surface runs Oklahoma's founding walleye program: the state's stocking history started here and the fishery still leads the metro.

Urban gold

The walleye work the riprap and points on the classic calendar: jigs at the spawn banks in March (the dam's rocks stack them), summer schools on the 12-20-ft flats (slow-death rigs and cranks at dusk), and a fall jerkbait bite along the lighthouse point that locals fish after work.
