Drawdown in 2026

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources announced on July 2, 2026 that Pineview would be drawn down that summer during construction of a new drinking-water pipeline for Ogden City, and warned that the reservoir might not be boatable by the end of July. To use the fish before the water dropped, DWR raised the limits from July 2 to December 31, 2026: 12 largemouth and smallmouth bass combined, one tiger muskie over 40 inches, and no limit on other species. Check DWR before planning a trip.

Tiger muskie records

Both of Utah's tiger muskie records come from Pineview, according to DWR: the catch-and-keep record of 33 lb 9 oz and 49 inches (2006) and the catch-and-release record of 53ΒΌ inches (1998). Under the 2026 guidebook's standing rules, possession of tiger muskie at Pineview is closed and every one must be released immediately; the emergency change above is the exception through December 31, 2026. DWR advises using a good-sized landing net and never lifting a muskie vertically by the gills.

Crappie and bait rules

The guidebook sets a 20-crappie limit at Pineview, bans whole fish as bait, and limits cut baitfish to pieces no larger than one inch, one per hook. Pineview is one of the waters where dead yellow perch may be used as bait.
