The reach
The Albert at Kerry is the fresh river of the Scenic Rim below the Lamington ranges, running from the rainforest through the Kerry valley’s farms over rock, gravel and pools toward Beaudesert and the Logan junction, with the Kerry crossing, the reserves and the valley road beside it. It is bass water in a green valley, and the Bureau of Meteorology’s gauge at Kerry supplies the river level and the 30-day chart on this page.
Species and seasons
Australian bass fish the pools, the snags and the rock from spring to autumn on surface lures at dusk and plastics by day, under the state’s bass rules for the fresh reaches; eel-tailed catfish and spangled perch are in the pools; and the Albert’s clear water and rock make it a lure fishery. Carp are few.
Where to fish it
The Kerry crossing and the reserves give bank access to the pools, the valley road crossings upstream toward the ranges give the rock reaches, and a kayak covers the pools downstream toward Beaudesert; the pool heads and the snags are the bass water. Dusk under the ranges is the bass hour.

Kerry and the Lamington foothills
The Kerry valley runs south from Beaudesert to the foot of the Lamington Plateau, and the road up the valley ends at the national park’s trails; the river’s clear water comes off the plateau’s rainforest and stays cool into summer, which is why the bass here feed through the middle of the day when the lowland rivers have shut down. The Albert joins the Logan below Beaudesert.
