Fishing Wyaralong Dam: the full guide
The lake
Wyaralong Dam holds Teviot Brook west of Beaudesert in the Scenic Rim, a Seqwater storage completed in 2011 as a shallow, open lake with a recreation area, walking and mountain bike trails, a ramp for non-powered and electric craft and a shoreline of flooded grass and young timber. It is a paddler’s lake stocked with bass and golden perch, and the Bureau of Meteorology’s gauge at the dam supplies the level and the 30-day chart on this page.
Species and seasons
Australian bass are stocked and school in the deeper water off the wall in winter and spread along the flooded grass and the timber in summer; golden perch are stocked and fish the points and the timber from spring to autumn; Mary River cod are stocked and protected; saratoga have been stocked; and red claw are a pot fishery where allowed. The stocking group publishes its releases. Seqwater allows non-powered and electric craft only.
Where to fish it
The recreation area at the wall has the ramp and the bank access, and a kayak or a canoe is the way onto a lake built for them: the flooded timber up the Teviot arm and the grassy edges are the summer bass and perch water, and the deeper water off the wall holds the winter schools. The trails along the shore give bank access to the western side.
Reading the report
