The reach
The Logan at Beaudesert is the fresh river of the Scenic Rim as it leaves the ranges and runs through the town’s river parks over sand bars and rock toward the weirs and the tidal reaches near Logan Village, with the Albert joining below. It is bass water above the tide, distinct from the tidal Logan that has its own page, and the Bureau of Meteorology’s gauge at Beaudesert supplies the river level and the 30-day chart on this page.
Species and seasons
Australian bass fish the snags, the rock and the deep bends from spring to autumn on surface lures at dusk and plastics by day, with the Queensland tidal bass closure from 1 June to 31 August applying to the tidal river below and the state’s bass rules to the fresh reaches; golden perch are stocked in the weir pools; eel-tailed catfish and spangled perch are present; and mullet push up to the weirs. Carp are few.
Where to fish it
The river parks and the bridges give bank access at the town, the crossings upstream toward Rathdowney give the rock reaches under the ranges, and a kayak covers the pools downstream toward the weirs; the snags and the rock are the bass water. Dusk under the river gums is the bass hour.
