A creek in the Wasatch Plateau

Huntington Creek flows off the Wasatch Plateau through Huntington Canyon in central Utah, a cold mountain stream holding wild brown trout, rainbows and Colorado River cutthroat. The Left Fork carries a well-known artificial-only reach that produces fish out of proportion to the creek’s modest size, and the canyon setting is quiet by Utah standards.

Wild trout in small water

The creek fishes as a classic small stream: pocket water, undercut banks and plunge pools worked with attractor dries, small nymphs and terrestrials through the summer. Careful approaches matter more than long casts. The Left Fork’s special-regulation water holds the better fish and sees the most attention from visiting anglers.

Seasons and flows

Runoff holds the creek high into June, with the fishing opening as flows drop through summer and staying good into fall. Irrigation demands and releases from Electric Lake affect flows in the lower canyon. Winter access can be limited by snow on the canyon road at higher elevations.
