The longest pier in Florida

Navarre Beach Pier runs 1,545 feet into the emerald Gulf, deep enough at the end to intersect the spring cobia migration in April, king mackerel all summer, and Spanish, bonito, and redfish along its length. Pier culture rules apply: the regulars at the end run heavy rigs for kings; the mid-pier crowd works Gotcha plugs for Spanish; everyone watches for the brown shadows of cruising cobia.

Surf and sound

The surf fishes classic Panhandle: pompano on Fishbites and sand fleas over the bars (March-May and again in fall), whiting year-round, redfish in the troughs after fronts. Behind the island, Santa Rosa Sound offers protected flats: trout over grass at dawn, reds along the drop-offs, and calm water whenever the Gulf churns.

Spring: pompano runs and the cobia watch. Summer: kings off the pier at dawn, trout in the sound before the heat, sharks after dark. Navarre without a boat

This is one of Florida's best boatless fisheries: pier, surf, and wadeable sound within a mile. Kayakers launch into the sound for trout or shoot the pass area toward deeper structure. It stays smaller and slower than Destin or Pensacola Beach: that is the point.

The sight-fishing run peaks late March-April as fish cruise west along the bar: the pier's height makes it a spotting tower. Bring a heavy spinning rod rigged and ready: shots come fast.

Is Navarre good for family fishing?

Ideal: pier rail action (Spanish, hardtails) for the kids, calm sound flats for waders, and pompano surf sessions measured in snack breaks. Less traffic than any comparable Panhandle town.
